Just like the US has 911, Nigeria’s National emergency number is 112. I have never had cause to use the number but I’ve heard quite favourable reviews of the service. If you however find yourself dissatisfied with the 112 emergency service, perhaps this new app could provide you an interesting alternative?

The app is called E-Alert and it was developed by the wonderful people at PISI Limited – Omar and Eku Ewedor and their team. E-alert looks to provide citizens with “the fastest way of notifying the emergency contacts when in danger”.

With a single click of the red panic button pictured above, E-alert will send pre-defined alert messages to emergency contacts with your GPS location (in 45 second intervals) via SMS and Email until you wish to disable the sending of alerts.

Of course you require a smartphone with an active internet connect and GPS service. I can think of at least 3 things wrong with the last sentence.

If you like the idea, E-alert is available for download on the Google Play Store.
