Microsoft is cutting its smartphone arm and is bearing up to $7.6bn in losses after its acquisition of Nokia’s smartphone manufacturing arm refused to buff up its mobile division as ex-CEO Steve Ballmer imagined.

The company is cutting up to 18, 000 jobs worldwide. Most of them in Finland, Nokia’s headquarters. The axe got to Nigeria today as Microsoft laid off 34 staff members at its 40-member Nigerian mobile division.
