Uber drivers and partners in Abuja have called off their two-day strike which commenced on Monday, October 31. The strike was to protest Uber’s alleged refusal to dialogue with the drivers concerning some festering issues surrounding low rates and safety concerns.

During the strike, Uber drivers in Abuja did not complete trips to and from the airport. It was later apparent that most of the drivers were offline as there had been a permanent surge in Abuja during those two days.

This morning, an Uber partner announced on twitter that the partners and drivers are back on the road but their original call for dialogue is still pending. It appears that the drivers have called off the strike even though their calls for a round table discussion have not yet been fulfilled.

According to him, the strike was called off to create the right atmosphere for Uber to reevaluate their priorities. There was also a call for Uber to re-activate drivers whose accounts had been deactivated during the strike action.

He admitted that the current status quo is unsustainable and reminded Uber that the drivers’ requests are not unreasonable since both sides already met once in June.

It is still unclear how this situation will play out but it seems Uber is not leaving anything to chance. Just yesterday, Red Media Africa was announced as Uber Nigeria’s official PR agency. Here’s hoping the situation is amicably resolved between both parties.
