This weekend, BudgIT Nigeria [@BudgITng] will be hosting a Civic Codeathon [Hackathon] as part of their ‘Accountable Governance for Justice and Security’ project. The Civic Data Codeathon is a combined data analysis and tool development event where participants will use openly licensed data to develop data stories, infographics and put technical expertise in developing data-driven applications.

During the Codeathon, participants will be opportuned to build platforms and tools that can address issues affecting the lives of citizens. The Codeathon will pose six different challenge questions that participants will be required to address and solve using simple technology for an improved society.

Solutions are expected to be geared toward showing clear and compelling explanations of how the app/solution improves its targeted sector. Applications should also be scalable and sustainable to achieve success. So this is a clarion call to all hackers, designers, policy experts and government leaders, those who have the power to use technology to answer challenging questions related to crime, public safety, justice, security and corruption and those who want to build awesomeness out of data.

The Codeathon will be happening at iDeaHub, 296, Herbert Macaulay Way, Sabo, Lagos; and event details are as follows:

Friday 25 April 2014 – Idea Pitching and Event Definition

Saturday 26 April 2014 – Codeathon begins
