Mobile Commerce app, MERGIMS has won the Rwandan leg of the Seedstars world competition.

MERGIMS, according to Disrupt Africa, connects Rwandans living abroad with merchants back home and also helps them buy items for their relatives back home.

“Winning this ticket to Geneva for us is the recognition of six months of hard work from the MERGIMS team,” said Louis-Antoine Muhire, CEO and founder of MERGIMS. “We are definitely working on something that will change the world, and today we’ve got another confirmation of that fact.”

Asuqu, Yubeyi, Lycamedia, Grocewheels, Safemotos and educational cartoon-making startup, Cartoon Home Network, were some of the other Rwandan startups that competed alongside MERGIMS last night.

The MERGIMS team will be in Switzerland next February, alongside other winning  contestants from Nigeria, Kenya South Africa and Ethiopia and 50 other countries for the global finals.

Three winners will take home $500,000 equity funding each at the global finals.
