A renewable energy startup has launched in Nairobi, Kenya and it is building solar-powered refrigeration systems (or cold rooms). It's called FreshBox and Disrupt Africa says it is the first of its kind in East Africa though there's another startup called Solar Freeze, also in Kenya. Per Disrupt Africa, its flagship unit is a solar-powered, walk-in cold room that can hold over 2100kg of fruits and vegetables, and can reach temperatures below freezing point.

In Zambia, MTN, Barclays Bank and the Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) have partnered to launch a mobile tax payment platform for mobile money users in the country. Users of the platform will be able to pay a variety of taxes through their mobile money accounts.

Nigerian mobile diagnostic imaging startup SonoCare has secured funding of "up to $250,000" from GMC coLabs, the women-focused investment arm of US-based impact investment firm Gray Matters Capital. SonoCare currently operates in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, the Nasarawa State capital Lafia, Sagbama in Bayelsa State and Otukpo in Benue State. It'll use the investment to scale operations by developing a mobile app and deploying more mobile units with the aim of catering to 200,000 pregnancies by 2020.
