Nigerian fintech company SystemSpecs has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with South Sudan’s Trinity Technologies Limited, with the help of the Africa Export and Import (Afrexim) Bank. The partnership was signed on the sidelines of the Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF 2018) in Cairo, Egypt and they estimate the collaboration will create value of about $93.7 million.

Founders of Nigerian mobile money company Paga, Tayo Oviosu and Jay Alabraba, have been selected as the third and fourth entrepreneurs to join the Endeavor Nigeria network. BitPesa founder Elizabeth Rossiello and Cars45 co-founder/CEO Etop Ikpe were the first and second entrepreneurs selected to join the high-growth entrepreneurship network.

MTN Group has appointed Charles Molapisi as its new CTO, effective from 1 January 2019. Molapisi has previously held various senior management positions in MTN Nigeria and MTN Zambia.

Ghanaian agri-tech startup AgroCenta has closed a seed round of equity and non-equity funding worth $650,000, per Disrupt Africa. The report says the startup got a $250K non-equity grant from the GSMA as part of the raise and it will use the funds to scale its operations in Ghana.

Techzim reports that Econet spinoff, Cassava SmarTech, also plans to launch a logitics-focused version of its VayaLift ride-hailing service. CEO Eddie Chibi is quoted as saying the platform’s eventual goal is to become a Mobility as a Service (MaaS) company.

State-owned TelOne has announced plans to deploy a facial recognition system, starting with the city of Mutare, to help the government of Zimbabwe better track road offenders, per Techzim. The technology will be deployed at traffic lights, airports and in cities across Zimbabwe.
