South African startup,  InvestSure, has raised ZAR9.6 million (US$685,000) in funding to broaden its offering and expand into new markets. The funding was secured from Hannover Re Africa subsidiaries, Lireas Holdings and Compass Insure, as well as venture capital firm 4Di Capital. InvestSure launched in May, 2018.

After securing US$1.5 million in a funding round led by the US-based Bittrex, South African startup VALR, will launch its digital asset trading platform which will allow customers seamlessly and instantly trade between bitcoin or ether and over 50 cryptocurrencies. VALR plans to leverage technology belonging to Bittrex, another digital asset trading platform.

Impact investment fund Beyond Capital has finalised its participation in Nairobi-based startup Tulaa‘s seed round with a $25,000 capital injection. Last year, Tulaa secured a $627,000 seed round led by Canadian impact investor AHL Venture Partners and included investments from  Global Partnerships/Eleos Social Venture Fund, Beyond Capital and Rafiki Ventures. The funds will be used to drive the startup's expansion in Kenya.

Ghana's OZÉ, Cote d’Ivoire's Seekewa, Nigeria's AMPZ.TV, Kenya's WayaWaya and South Africa's Snode Technologies have been selected as regional winners in  MEST Africa’s 2019 Pan-African pitch competition. They will pitch on a global stage in the finals at the 4th MEST Africa Summit, to be held in Nairobi, Kenya, June 10-12, for a US$50K in equity prize as well as business mentorship.

An Australian ‘Airbnb for Parking’ has launched in Kenya. Kerb allow car users find parking easily as well as let homeowners rent out their spare spaces to make extra cash. Launched in Australia in October 2016 by Rob Brown and Matt Salmon, Kerb is available in 300 cities and 19 languages. The Kenya launch will be shortly followed by a regional expansion across East Africa.

NBA Player, Andre Iguodala, will be joining e-commerce giant Jumia as a member of its board of directors. According to the company, Andre will be “charged with promoting business development and technology in Africa.”
