Tech Women Lagos Opening Weekend [Video Highlights]

Egypt is launching a EGP1 billion (US$57.8 million) fintech fund. According to the deputy governor of the Central Bank of Egypt, the fund will support digital finance startups and fund research in the financial services space. The goal is to establish the country as a fintech hub in North Africa.

Logistics company Kobo360 is expanding its operations into Accra and Nairobi. The company just recently launched operations in Lomé. At this time, Kobo360 has rolled out a beta operation in Ghana and expects to test the Kenyan market further, in the coming weeks. Since launching in 2016, Kobo360 has moved 297M KG of goods, serviced over 1,450 businesses and aggregated a fleet of over 10,000 drivers and trucks.

Kenya’s Kaspersky Lab has a new Enterprise Sales Manager. Bethwel Opil. Opil will be responsible and focused on growing Kaspersky Lab Enterprise solutions and services to partner and customers in Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Ethiopia, Uganda and Burundi. With over a decade in the industry, Opil was instrumental in launching Kaspersky’s operation in East Africa.

The WISH Africa Expo is pleased to announce Senior Director Energy at TESLA, Alex Schoch is confirmed to speak on the “Powering Africa” panel. GoFundMe has banned anti-vaccination campaigns on its platform in a bid to curb misinformation. “We are conducting a thorough review and will remove any campaigns currently on the platform,” spokesman Bobby Whithorne told The Daily Beast. In recent times, anti-vax movements in places like US and India have resulted in infections and stalled vaccination programs.

VC firm, Knife Capital in partnership with SA SME Fund and Deloitte, has announced the launch of its Grindstone Accelerator programme in Johannesburg. The year-long programme provides 10 startups with the business support necessary to become sustainable. Applications close April 22.
