Crop2Cash, an agritech solution provider for small farm holders has won the Lagos edition of this year’s Seedstars pitch event.

Seedstars is the world’s largest startup competition for innovators from emerging markets. The competition focuses on startups with impactful innovations. This year, Seedstars regional events will be held in over 80 cities globally.

At the Lagos event, Doctoora, a medical startup, and Traders of Africa, a platform that enables intra-Africa trade, finished second and third respectively.

According to Alessia Balducci, General Manager of Seedstars Nigeria, the Lagos competition is the most competitive in Africa. A total of 11 startups pitched at the event, which was held in the newly launched Seedspace GrowthLabs in Lagos.

The Seedstars Lagos event was at the recently created Seedspace GrowthLabs.

The winning startup, Crop2Cash, has built a number of solutions for farmers. It developed a digital banking service that allows farmers to operate bank accounts with USSD codes and a mobile app. Its platform also makes it easy for farmers to manage their supply chain and relations with suppliers.

Crop2Cash was founded in 2018 by Michael Ognudare, Emem Essien, and Seyi Alabi. The startup will represent Nigeria at the Seedstars Africa Summit which holds in South Africa in December.

If successful at the Africa regional event, Crop2Cash will also go on to pitch at the Seedstars Global Summit and stand the chance to win up to $1 million equity investment and other prizes. The Seedstars Global Summit holds in Switzerland in April 2020.

Crop2Cash also stands the chance to join less than 20 startups in the exclusive Seedstars Growth Program. This is a 14 weeks accelerator programme that promises $50,000 investment and an opportunity for more funding.
