Pricepally is a wholesale food e-commerce startup making fresher, and cheaper food items available to families and individuals by connecting them directly to farmers and wholesalers via its web and app-based platform. Buyers can also shop for food and daily essentials collectively in groups so as to benefit from the discount on bulk purchases on the platform.

Launched in 2019, the startup was co-founded by ex-Alibaba Efounder fellow Luther Lawoyin to empower both sides of the food supply chain (farmers/wholesalers and consumers) thereby solving challenges like high cost of food items, food wastage, and access to quality farm-fresh items in the food supply space. Pricepally solves these by using technology to aggregate supply and demand through an organized system that links customers directly to farm-fresh food items. According to Luther:

“If the most successful startups in the food industry are using technology to enhance their offerings, why shouldn’t Africa, with its emerging markets, be doing the same? At Pricepally, we are determined to change these obstacles by leveraging technology to proffer better solutions.”

How Does Pricepally Leverage Technology To Serve Users?
Users can access the platform via web and mobile apps for ios and android users (App Store and Playstore). With an easy onboarding process, Pricepally allows first-time users ‘create account’ on its platform to enjoy additional features like:

  • Pricepally Wallet: that allows users to pay for their orders using their unique in-app wallet. Wallets can be funded using Nigerian bank accounts.
  • Pally: The Pally feature lets users share bulk foodstuffs in small quantities/portions. Up to 20 people can share a 50KG basket of Tomatoes.
  • Make A List: This feature allows users to buy their shopping list quickly.
  • Free delivery days: Shoppers enjoy free delivery if their location is scheduled to be part of the free delivery day schedule.

Expansion Plans

Since its launch, Pricepally has catered to thousands of households and businesses in Lagos. The startup, which is at the pre-seed stage currently services over 700 households and over 100 businesses monthly with an impressive 77% retention rate. Beyond the numbers, the platform has had glowing reviews from some of its users speaking to the startup’s speed in treating orders.

“I placed an order through the website yesterday and the items were delivered promptly today. I was blown away! ” – Tope

In order to deepen its reach across the country, Pricepally is expanding its operations to Abuja in Q4 2021 and Port Harcourt in Q1 2022.
