PCCW, a Hong Kong-based company with interest in telecommunications, media, and IT Solutions has announced it is planning on starting its online streaming service in Africa, according to Bloomberg, quoting unofficial sources.

Bloomberg believes the move will rival Nasper, who unveiled its own online streaming service, ShowMax, in South Africa last month, and Netflix, the California-based streaming service that plans to expand to Africa in 2016.

With the European and American market already saturated, the African market, with its untapped potential, and over one billion wireless internet users look set to be the new frontier for online streaming.

If it turns out to be true, PCCW will still need to contend with the issue of high internet cost, and data usage which is one of the salient issues holding back the growth of the sector on the African continent.
