The 2017 Geeks on a Plane tour, organised by 500 Startups, a Silicon Valley venture capital seed fund and startup accelerator, is coming to Africa. The tour will last from March 20 to April 1, 2017 and will pass through these four African cities; Lagos, Cape Town, Accra, and Johannesburg.

The aim of the tour is to teach late-stage startups, investors, and executives about high-growth technology markets worldwide. The tour travels by planes, trains, and automobiles to startup scenes around the world with the purpose of uniting geeks and investigating cross-border opportunities.

It will offer participants the opportunity to gain insight into local markets, demographics, business models, meet cool people, new ventures, and have fun. An anticipated result of the tour is the formation of lifelong bonds with fellow travelers, the making of new friends and business contacts in exploding technology markets, and a stronger appreciation for the cultural and economic ties.

So far, Geeks on a Plane has been on 16 trips, and visited 46 cities across 33 countries, with over 15,000 alumni. This will be its first trip to the African continent.

The tour will be in Lagos, Nigeria from March 20 to March 23, and will move on to Accra, Ghana, from March 23 to March 25. The next stop will be Johannesburg, South Africa from March 25 to March 28, and end in Cape Town, Soth Afric from March 28 to April 1, 2017.
