The World Economic Forum (WEF) has released its Global Information Technology Report for 2015, which revealed that SA has slidded down five places to 75th on the NRI (Network Readiness Index) ranking.

The ranking measured 143 economies in terms of their capacity to prepare for, use and leverage ICT. On this note, South Africa becomes third in Africa joggling behind Mauritius (45) and Seychelles (74).

According to Fin24 summary of the report, “Despite a score unchanged from last year, South Africa loses five positions to settle at 75th place in this edition. The country’s overall political and business environment remains one of its strengths (31st).”

Director and Vice President, Institute of Technology Information Professionals South Africa, Adrian Schofield said, “Only a complete change of attitude in the department of telecommunications & postal services and the removal of the department of communications from this policy arena will reverse the trend.”

Other African countries are already closing in on South Africa, like Kenya who moved up 6 places to 86th on the index this year.
