Ushahidi, the team of makers behind the self-powered internet backup, BRCK, has launched a learning division and has also appointed Nivi Mukherjee, CEO and co-founder of eLimu, to head it.
The learning division, BRCK Education, is aimed at tackling digital literacy in Kenya.
Techmoran reports that the BRCK education initiative will provide hardware and software solutions that will enable on/offline learning in Kenya and across Africa, most notably the the self-powered, cloud enabled wifi hotspot router, BRCK, with built-in fail-overs.
“BRCK aims to creatively and effectively deliver 21st century technology that will revolutionize the education sector and eventually take digital literacy in Kenya and in the African continent to the next level,” said Juliana Rotich, BRCK co-founder in the report.
While eLimu, an e-learning platform for children, will focus on publishing digital content, BRCK education will provide eLimu with hardware, software and connectivity for students to access eLimu’s content.
