According to the International Telecommunication Union’s “The World in 2014: ICT Facts and Figures” report, by the end of 2014, there will be nearly 3 billion internet users world wide. Two-thirds of the new users are most likely to come from the developing regions. Mobile broadband subscriptions are forecasted to reach 2.3 billion globally by the end of 2014. That is almost 5 times as many subscriptions as in 2008. 55% of these subscriptions will come from developing regions. Also, active mobile broadband penetration is expected to be around 32% globally by the end of 2014. Meanwhile, Africa will lead in mobile broadband penetration. In 2010. only 10% of the continent’s population was online. That figure will double to 20% by the end of 2014.
