The world’s most popular messaging platform just reached another milestone, according CEO and Founder, Jan Koum
Now serving 600,000,000 monthly active users. Yes, active and registered are very different types of numbers…

Notice how Koum plays emphasis on active users. Just to be clear, the monthly active user metric is calculated by measuring how many unique IDs (phone numbers in the case of WhatsApp) have sent at least once message in the space of the past 30 days. We might never know how many actual registered users WhatsApp has got (probably very close to a billion) but, growing from 500 to 600 million active users in the space of just 4 months is a really big deal.
If we had any doubts before, it’s becoming clearer why WhatsApp is probably worth every dollar of the $19 billion acquisition by Facebook. The company is rapidly inching closer to Mark Zuckerberg’s target of 1 billion active users.
