Seedstars-Soweto

Last night, three startups won the Soweto arm of the Seedstars World South African competition, making them qualifiers for the national final in Johannesburg on June 30.

The startups are UmoyAir Communications, a free calls service,  Riovic, a crowdfunded insurance startup, and  Sortd, communication-centric organiser. At the national finals, they will compete with other startups from other parts of South Africa for a chance to pitch for $1 million in investment at the global final in Switzerland.

Seedstars World is touring African countries, looking for the best startups in Africa. This is the fourth edition of the African tour and it’s in line with their mission to exhibit the best startups from emerging markets. Other countries that are part of this tour include Mozambique, Botswana, Angola, Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Mali, Senegal, Rwanda, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Sudan, Zimbabwe, Morocco, Algeria, Egypt and Tunisia
