Barely a year after the release of Spark 4, TECNO launched the Spark 5 in Nigeria. This time around, the Spark 5 comes with five cameras in total with a massive 6.6 HD Screen and 5000mAh battery that lasts more than a day of heavy use.
In this unboxing review, we will take a look at its key features.

The Package
The first thing you see once you get your hands on the TECNO Spark 5 package is the eye-catching box. Like other phones released under the Spark flagship, TECNO is still using vibrant and bold colors that stick to the hearts of users. The paper encasement this time is a stunning turquoise blue and yellow box with the name Spark and the number 5 engraved in the middle.
The other end of the box shows some unique features of the Spark 5. On the box too, you can see the new TECNO Spark 5 retains the dot-in display feature that guarantees an immersive multi-media experience.
Spark 5 Quad Camera
Unlike its predecessors, TECNO splurged on the Spark 5 with a unique 4 rear camera setup (13MP +2MP+ 2MP +QVGA). This, I believe, is the real reason you should opt for the Spark 5, as it is a step up from the AI-triple camera setup of the Spark 4.
The 13MP primary camera comes with an f/1.8 aperture for taking clear and natural photos, while the first 2MP macro camera makes crystal clear close-up shots. The other 2MP depth camera is for TECNO’s much loved AI bokeh effect, and the QVGA gives lovely photos in low light. All of these are paired with a Quad-LED flash for a better low-light images. Combined together, the design and camera are just perfect for a low-priced phone.
The Display
The end-to-end stunning visual display is just so impressive. Even more, TECNO switched its teardrop design for the less obtrusive dot-in display. We already saw this with the Camon 12 Air, but it’s a welcome addition on the Spark Series. So, we can watch all kinds of movies while taking full advantage of the 6.6inch screen display. Sure, this does not in any way mean that the selfie camera is out. In fact, this tiny hole on the screen houses an 8MP Camera plus dual-LED flash for beautiful selfie photos.
The Design
The two-color elaborate textural blends of the new Spark 5, is gorgeous. And, paired with TECNO’s trademark, polycarbonate skin, the Spark 5 is satisfyingly beautiful and an eye-catching device you just want to have for yourself. However, this isn’t the first time we are seeing this visual design as the Camon 15 equally had this intricate premium finish.
Compared to its predecessor, the Spark 5 is bigger than the Spark 4 at 6.6 inches. The fingerprint off-course remains in the same convenient space as before. The Spark 5 is also a bit bulkier than its predecessor but still comfortable and sturdy to hold.
At the base, you will find the usual USB, headphones port, and speaker grills.
On the left-hand side of the TECNO Spark 5, is the power button underneath the volume button which is quite unique this time around as it comes in red colour.
The right-hand side features the dual-sim card slot, which also works as the memory card slot. There’s also a tiny pin to help get the tray out.
The Performance
As expected, the Spark 5 comes with 4G LTE connectivity. However, the chipset is the same as the predecessor, and so most people would expect that the device has the same level of performance. However, with the new HiOS skin and the benefits of the Android 10, the Spark 5 performance is slightly better than the usual. The bigger battery life is also a welcome addition. Now, one can enjoy over 6-8 hours of heavy use on a Spark phone.
The Accessories
The Spark 5 comes with the trademarked TECNO spark charger, earpiece, and warranty (don’t lose it as it might come in handy). Also added is a tiny pin for bringing out the SIM tray.
Also, in the pack is a beige translucent plastic phone cover to keep the TECNO Spark 5 free from scratches. It’s so lovely that the casing can absorb most of the shock when it falls to the ground. However, I’ve never really liked the neutral phone encasements, would have loved having a black or bold printed cover (just saying though).
First Impressions
The TECNO Spark 5 comes as a worthy upgrade to its predecessors-a total of five cameras, improved 5000mAh battery, an immersive 6.6-inch Dot-in display and an updated Android 10 operating system. The TECNO Spark 5 is available across all retail outlets in Nigeria at a starting price of N49,000
