Africa has the fastest-growing youth population in the world, with over 200 million people aged between 15-24 years old. As this number continues to grow, so does the demand for quality education and accessible resources for African undergraduates.
According to recent studies, African undergraduates face numerous challenges that hinder their academic success. These include a lack of access to educational resources, limited job opportunities, and poor communication with classmates and lecturers. Additionally, many students struggle with keeping track of their academic performance and managing their schedules.
A study by the African Development Bank found that 65% of African graduates do not find work that matches their field of study. This mismatch between qualifications and available jobs often leads to underemployment or unemployment among African graduates. AlutaApp aims to address this challenge by providing a platform that connects students with relevant job opportunities and resources that can help them navigate the job market more effectively.
The AlutaApp founder’s journey to creating the revolutionary mobile application began with his own struggles as an undergraduate student in Africa. Like many young people, he had high hopes and aspirations for his academic journey, but he soon found out that the reality of studying at an African university was far from easy. As an undergraduate, he faced various challenges such as limited access to educational resources, inadequate communication channels within the campus, and difficulty in finding internship placements and part-time jobs, among others. This led to the founder conducting research that involved over 3000 students across 6 institutions. The result of this research was what gave birth to AlutaApp.
AlutaApp is designed to solve these problems by providing a one-stop shop for all undergraduate needs. The app features a Newsfeed that allows students to stay up-to-date on campus happenings , a Tutorials feature that provide unlimited access to tutorial videos on various topics. The Jobs section enables students to easily access job opportunities, while the Time Table feature allows students to keep track of their lecture times and receive notifications when lectures are due. Daily Trivia enables students to compete with each other to win amazing prizes, while the CGPA Calculator helps students keep track of their academic performance.
AlutaApp also has a Marketplace which allows students to buy and sell items conveniently, while the Library feature provides students with easy access to textbooks, handouts, and exam past questions on the go.
“With AlutaApp, we aim to provide African undergraduates with the tools and resources they need to excel in their academic and personal lives,” said Queenette Obongha, CEO of AlutaApp. “Our app is designed to solve the problems that students face every day, from accessing educational resources to staying connected with coursemates within and outside their institution.”
The potential impact of AlutaApp is significant. With over 200 million African youth, the app has the potential to reach a vast audience and revolutionize the undergraduate education sector. Furthermore, with access to resources and job opportunities, AlutaApp can help bridge the gap between education and employment, improving the lives of millions of students across the continent.
