A one-size-fits-all learning approach is adopted globally despite heavy criticism of its inability to cater to diverse learners effectively. This approach is mostly adopted because of a shortage of teachers, resources, and limited infrastructure. Bildup AI, Africa’s first AI-powered educational platform, uses AI to offer personalised, adaptive learning to re-engineer how children learn, improve how teachers tutor, and how parents can guide their wards on their educational journey. The platform aims to replicate the experience of one-on-one tutoring, using artificial intelligence to guide, instruct, and inspire learners regardless of their background or geographic location.
Founded by Chibuike Aguene, the idea behind Bildup AI emerged from a personal experience. The founder struggled to provide meaningful career guidance to his niece and nephew amidst a demanding schedule.
“At the time, my team had recently launched an apprenticeship program, but providing personalised support to each beneficiary proved difficult,” he said. This sparked the motivation to make personalised education a reality across Africa. “What if there were intelligent AI tutors—not just to support my niece and nephew, but to deliver personalised, meaningful learning experiences to anyone, anywhere?”
AI is actively reshaping various sectors, and the educational sector is not left out. Per a UNESCO report, sub-Saharan Africa needs 17 million additional teachers to achieve universal basic education by 2030. Bildup AI is a response to the unique challenges posed by teacher shortages, infrastructure deficits, and curriculum mismatches. AI-powered tutors not only alleviate teacher workload but also enhance students’ grasp of classroom material. The platform delivers materials aligned with local syllabi, infused with culturally relevant examples, and optimised for environments where bandwidth may be limited.
What sets Bildup AI apart is its human-centred design, connecting parents, teachers, schools, and administrators in one ecosystem. Parents can monitor progress, teachers focus on mentoring, and students receive individualised support, progressing at their own pace without fear of being left behind.
“This isn’t just learning, it is a partnership between you and the AI, turning education into a path the student will enjoy and cherish,” Aguene said.
With a vision to transform Africa’s future, Bildup AI aims to deliver personalised educational experiences to 10 million students across the continent within five years, bridging the gap in access to quality education.
“As we scale, we are not just growing numbers, we are enriching our platform with new subjects, tailored curricula, and comprehensive school programs,” Aguene said.
Currently in its private beta phase, Bildup AI is garnering attention from educators, parents, and investors. The company plans to scale rapidly, starting with Nigerian students and expanding across West Africa, aiming to reach millions across the continent and ensure every African child has access to a quality learning experience.
When Africa needs it the most, Bildup AI is offering innovative solutions with a local understanding to transform education for Nigerians.
