I just came across an interesting headline in today’s Republica daily brief, which by the way you should subscribe to by the way (disclosure, it’s one of ours). According to the report on Daily Trust, the management of the National Youth Service Corps have launched an app.

“The application will enable them to communicate and also access online content of the scheme, Director General of the scheme, Brigadier General Johnson Olawumi said at the launch in Abuja. Brig. Gen. Olawumi said the introduction of the mobile application (app) was a tool for information dissemination that will fast track easy link between the scheme and its publics. He said the mobile app will enable corps members communicate amongst themselves and officers of the scheme using their mobile phones.”

Communicate amongst themselves huh? There’s an app for that they already use, it’s called WhatsApp. It does sound cool though, especially as an easy access repository for NYSC info and a way to get updates from the Corp.

The report says that the next batch of Corpers will be able to check their postings via the app, which is already available for Android. It should work on BlackBerries too, but probably the older generations. I couldn’t find it on my BB10 device.

The app definitely could use some 2014 design thinking. But it looks like it could be useful, provided it works as advertised.

In NYSC and plan on using or have used the app? Let us know what you think.
