Back in the day, the best way to get back at a friend was to secretly subscribe him/her for callertunes. It was the perfect retribution – the person stays unaware of the fact that his/her line is paying MTN, Airtel or whatever network NGN100 every month; it autorenews, so the NGN100 becomes a monthly salary. Even when you found out, (if you ever find out), it was equally infuriating trying to cancel the subscription.
Sometimes, the networks sign you up themselves, as part of a network package. E no matter. As penance for my past sins, here are all the ways to cancel the caller tunes subscription off your phone.
(Note, this post covers only Nigerian telecoms networks).
MTN
Send Cancel to 4100. You should receive a message saying you’ve successfully canceled your MTN caller tunes subscription. If not, text them again. Keep texting till they succumb.
GLO
Send dereg to 7728. Follow similar advice above.
AIRTEL
Text STOP to 791.
ETISALAT
Text RBTOFF to 251.
If you’re not currently subscribed, you should get an SMS saying “you currently aren’t subscribed to the callertunes service.” Just to be on the safe side, you should send it every other week. You never know who’s out to get you.
