Telecommunications operator in Kenya, Safaricom, has unveiled a new data centre, which will be located in Eldoret, Western Kenya.

This move is in a bid to enhance the network quality in the North rift region and the efficiency of the data centre organization, installation and maintenance of network equipment there.

“The construction of the facility has been driven by demand from customers for data services. This site is well equipped and has been designed in a way that will enable any future expansions that it may do.” Safaricom’s director of technology, Thiboud Rerolle, said.

The data centre (aka MGW site), which is located at Kapsoya (Periphery of eldoret town), has cost Safaricom a sum of KES 20 million.

Safaricom Ltd –a subsidiary of Telkom Kenya, formed in 1997- is a mobile network operator in Kenya. The operator has 11 data hubs in the country, however, Kapsoya is the first state of the art centre in the North Rift region.
