I’m pretty sure you haven’t heard of UMi. It’s one of the many Chinese Android OEMs out there.
It’s common knowledge that to even get a shot at making a profit, most Android OEMs have to squeeze out the most possible value for the user, at ridiculously cheap prices. Most of them fail, and end up producing very cheap, very forgettable devices, but UMi may have cracked it. At least on paper.
They have just announced an absolute beast – the UMi Touch; 13MP Sony-supplied rear camera, a 5.5 inch full HD display, an octa-core MediaTek processor, a 4000maH battery, 3GB of RAM (that’s more than many WIndows laptops), all powered by Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
All this (on paper) goodness for $109 – as long as you’re one of the first 1000 people to register for the UMi partner program, before February 17. Everyone else can place orders from February 18, at $179.99.
