South Africa-based VC firm Knife Capital has announced that it’s made an undisclosed investment in PharmaScout, a pharmaceutical temperature monitoring product developed by Cape Town-based healthtech startup 5nines Technologies. The funds will help accelerate the product’s rollout to pharmacies, medical practitioners and pharmaceutical warehouses.

Econet is partnering with a local council in Zimbabwe to develop a “smart street”. It’ll feature self-serve kiosks, WiFi points and sensor-controlled traffic lights. Techzim has more.

Nigeria-based ThriveAgric has been selected to participate in the 500Startups accelerator program, It is one of 22 startups selected to participate in the four month long program. Thrive Agric is a crowdfunding platform that provides farmers the finances to grow their business.

Cairo-based AlMakinah, a coding bootcamp that helps people learn software development, has partnered with Global Shapers Giza to offer coding scholarships to Egyptian women. MENABytes has more.

Habitat for Humanity’s Terwilliger Center for Innovation in Shelter has launched its Kenya’s first ShelterTech Accelerator program. The program with target Kenyan start-ups and growth-stage companies that are bringing housing products and services to the low-income household market.
