In 2024, Gigbanc launched with a clear mission to empower Africa’s growing pool of freelancers, creators, and remote workers with the financial tools they need to thrive in the global economy. One year later, the numbers tell a story of impact, resilience, and bold ambition.

100K users, $2M processed, and a community in motion

In just twelve months, over 100,000 people have signed up on Gigbanc. Global talents across Africa are using the platform to receive payments, exchange currencies, and transact seamlessly across borders. Gigbanc has processed more than $2 million in transactions, raised over $1 million in funding, and enabled payments in 40+ countries.

This reach reflects how the startup is bridging gaps for African talent in a world where payment bottlenecks and financial exclusion remain everyday struggles.

Building tools for a borderless workforce

The team has been deliberate about launching a broad set of products that serve Africa’s freelancers and small businesses. Within a year, Gigbanc rolled out:

    • Local NGN payments
    • USD, EUR & GBP payments
    • USD virtual debit card
    • Currency exchange
    • Bill payments

These tools mean that a Nigerian designer working with a US client can receive payments quickly, convert currencies at competitive rates, and pay local bills smoothly.

    Building a talent ecosystem

Gigbanc’s ambition extends beyond fintech. The company has actively positioned itself as an enabler of Africa’s global talent economy by investing in community and culture. Initiatives like GigSocial (a mixer/ professional hangout for remote workers and tech talent); GigConnect  (a networking event for freelancers); the Gigbanc Global Talent Fellowship (which empowers talent with mentorship, tools, and networks to transform your skills into global opportunities); and the 21 Days of Giving campaign (a community outreach), have brought talent together.

Through these initiatives, freelancers, remote workers, and small business owners have a supportive ecosystem that extends beyond transactions.

At the heart of Gigbanc’s operations is  a people-first culture. Inside the organisation, employees describe a workplace where people take the work seriously but still have fun.

The startup has built a supportive environment that empowers staff to do their best while staying connected to the mission. For this reason, Gigbanc has an employee Net Promoter Score (NPS) of 100, meaning all employees recommend Gigbanc to interested friends or colleagues as a place to work

    What’s next for Gigbanc?

Gigbanc is just getting started. The company is preparing to launch Gigbanc for Business, aimed at supporting SMEs, and a Gigbanc EuroVirtual Account to give African freelancers even more flexibility in dealing with global clients.

These upcoming products reflect the company’s vision to become more than just a payments solution. Gigbanc wants to be the backbone of Africa’s global talent economy, empowering millions of creators, freelancers, and entrepreneurs to compete and thrive globally.

A bold mission for the future

One year in, Gigbanc’s story is both about milestones and momentum. By combining financial innovation with community-building, the company has carved out a role as a service provider and partner to Africa’s talent economy.

As the gig and digital economy across the continent continues to expand, Gigbanc is betting on the powerful idea that African talent is global talent, and with the right support, it can compete anywhere in the world.
