Republica (www.onerepublica.com) is a digital comics delivery platform that focuses on African comics and graphic novels. It also covers industry news, articles, reviews and there is a”videos” section that will feature, animation, interviews.
Co-founder, Adeniran Adeniji Jr. started out as an illustrator and comic creator. If you follow, or ever heard about, the “Uhuru – Legend of the Windriders” series, he is the dude behind it. Like many other independent publishers in Nigeria, Adeniji faced an uphill task when it came to distributing his comics. Adeniji and his team at PMG Comics/Distribution have been able to get print copies of his comics into several stores in Lagos and Accra as well as Konga and Jumia, leading online retailers in Nigeria.
However, Adeniji realised that digital comics provide a better opportunity for the future. So together with his sister, he founded Republica to serve as a platform for promotion and sale of primarily African and Africa-produced digital comics, as well as comics-related merchandise like t-shirts, action-figures and the like.
The digital comics on OneRepublica.com are reasonably priced, with average cost of N150. There are even a dozen free comics to get you started. Payments are handled via Paypal or VoguePay Payment Gateway, which should accept most cards. Purchases are delivered as PDF downloads.
OneRepublica.com is self-funded by Adeniran Adeniji Jr. (Co-founder, CEO) and his sister, Oluseun Adeniji (Co-founder, COO).
