SNAPCHAT

The developers of Snapchat application have launched their new feature called ‘Discover’, in their latest attempt to surpass Facebook as the destination for marketers.

This new feature, apart from being targeted mostly at young people, seems to be also predicated on the fact that editors and artists have been marginalized on the Facebook platform. Additionally, It recognizes publishers (and their love for gorgeous advertising) and supposedly has a liberal and user friendly approach to it.

“[Snapchat Discover] is not social media. Social media companies tell us what to read based on what’s most recent or most popular. We see it differently. We count on editors and artists, not clicks and shares, to determine what’s important,” according to a post to their website.

Snapchat is a photo messaging application developed by the trio of Evan, Bobby, and Reggie, former Stanford University students. The application allow users to take photos, record videos, add text /drawings and send them to a controlled list of recipients.

Offers of acquisition (worth $3 billion & $4 billion) were reportedly declined by Spiegel from Facebook and Google respectively; a trend, if authentic, signals Snapchat as the latest fad amongst social media enthusiast
