Kenyans may soon start paying for digital content broadcasted by terrestrial TV stations as the country rounded off its analogue switch-off.
Techmoran reports that Kenya met the global deadline of June 17, 2015.
The analogue switch-off is based on an agreement with the International Telecommunications Union (ITU). If local regulations in relation to the agreement is enacted in Kenya, Pay TV providers will only broadcast free content from Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC).
“Government will review Pay TV conditions leaving only Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) on the ‘must carry’ category if proposed broadcast regulations are adopted.” a Daily Nation report says.
Also, SIGNET, a public signal distributor, is partnering with the government of Spain to install digital transmitters in several underserved areas in Kenya including Kitui, Lamu, Maralal, and Garsen.
