Samsung Electronics West Africa recently launched the third iteration of their Samsung Smart School Project for teachers and students in schools in Calabar, Cross River State.
This project is part of Samsung’s “Smart School Rollout” scheme and it will see unity schools across Cross River equipped with mobile devices, electronic boards, and thin client monitors. The Smart School Project already exists in Abuja and Ogun State, and Samsung is partnering with Etiam Global to organise basic literacy training for 50 teachers in Calabar. These teachers will also be given Samsung devices to help them access learning resources and monitor students’ progress.
Speaking at the launch, Samsung West Africa Head, Enterprise Business solution/IT Business, Anu Rotimi Agboola said, “In keeping with this aspiration, the Smart School for Teachers will focus on equipping and training teachers in basic computer literacy, as well as providing them access to the tools they need to use ICT for curriculum development and more impactful teaching. The aim is to empower teachers to access digital content, share it with their students, use it to conduct assessments and monitor their student’s’ progress continuously.’’
Obviously, this is great stuff for teachers and students in Calabar. Samsung estimates that 5,000 teachers and 100,000 students will be impacted over the next five years. The plan is to roll out this project to nine other states in Nigeria.
