The Jack Ma Foundation’s ‘Africa Netpreneur Prize’ has announced that startups can start applying to the programme from 27 March 2019. The inaugural competition will see the Foundation award $1 million a year for the next 10 years to support African startups, small businesses, grassroots communities and women-founded enterprises, iAfrikan reports.

Nigerian co-working space, Leadspace, has partnered local bank FCMB for the launch of Hub One, a tech hub in Lagos. According to Disrupt Africa, their aim is to address infrastructural gaps holding back tech startups- with a “conducive environment designed to foster collaboration and drive creativity within Nigeria’s tech startup ecosystem.”

Quincy Larson, founder of FreeCodeCamp tweeted yesterday that Nigeria is the third most represented country on the platform, behind the US and India respectively. He cited it as evidence that Nigeria has a “surging developer scene”. FreeCodeCamp is an interactive learning platform that helps people learn to program.

African Leadership University, Flutterwave, Flare, Sanku-Project Healthy Children, Farm to Market Alliance, Talamus Health, Yego Innovision, The Sun Exchange, Ovamba Solutions, and Aerobotics are the African companies on the just-released annual list of the World’s Most Innovative Companies for 2019 by Fast Company. The list honours the “businesses making the most profound impact on both industry and culture, showcasing a variety of ways to thrive in today’s volatile world”.

Google has just launched a new domain, .dev, exclusively for developers. Google hopes .dev will be a new home for developers to build communities, learn the latest tech and showcase projects. Here’s the blog post from Google.

FSD Africa, the Banque Centrale du Congo and Elan RDC have launched the ‘DRC – Innovation for Financial Services 2019’ startup competition in the Democratic Republic of Congo. The competition targets local startups, businesses, and entrepreneurs who have dedicated their efforts to devising relevant and value-adding financial services and payment innovations in the DRC.
