A security flaw on South Africa’s Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) website exposed the information of over 36,000 South African voters, MyBroadBand reports. The issue has however been resolved, and the IEC said it was caused by an attempt to address page expiry concerns.

Nigerian startup Hello Tractor has partnered with the Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation ACP-EU (CTA) to expand its services across Nigeria and Kenya. The collaboration will help Hello Tractor connect 5,000 smallholder farmers to mechanisation services. Hello Tractor connects tractor owners to farmers through an Internet of Things (IoT)-enabled digital solution.

Jack Ma Foundation’s African Netpreneur Prize Initiative (ANPI) has announced the names of three additional regional partners it will work with on the $10-million Africa Netpreneur Prize. The regional partners are Abuja-based Network of Incubators and Innovators in Nigeria (Nine), Cairo-based entrepreneurship platform RiseUp, and Johannesburg-based startup campus 22 On Sloane. The three partners along with Nairobi-based Nailab, will mobilise aspiring entrepreneurs in their respective regions and promote the prize.

National Social Security Fund (NSSF) in Kenya has partnered with Safaricom so that members will now be able to remit their contributions via M-PESA. According to techweez, this was made official yesterday when the agency hosted the telco at its headquarters. The National Social Security Fund is a Kenyan government agency responsible for the collection, safekeeping, responsible investment and distribution of retirement funds of employees in both the formal and informal sectors of the Kenyan Economy.

Mounir Nakhla, co-founder of Egyptian ride-hailing startup Halan, and the three co-founders of mass transit system Swvl have been chosen to join the global Endeavor network. The network offers access to mentorship and acceleration services. The Endeavor initiative, an organization headquartered in New York City with the mission to “select, mentor and accelerate the best High-Impact Entrepreneurs around the world”, launched in Nigeria and Kenya last year. It has accepted a number of African entrepreneurs into its network in recent months.

TechCentral reports that South African Technology group Altron plans to move out of its corporate offices in Parktown to a new, 29 000sqm campus in Woodmead, north of Johannesburg. The campus is being developed by Growthpoint Properties. Woodmead is increasingly becoming a hotspot for technology companies, with tech firms like Huawei, Huge Group, Broadband Infraco, Ericsson, Accenture, SAP and Sage situating their office there.

Ericsson’s Mobility Report says an estimated 30 million 5G subscriptions will be made for the Middle East and Africa between now and 2024. According to Ericsson, “considerable momentum is building up in South Africa” for 5G.
