One in every five of the world’s out-of-school children is in Nigeria. How do we forge leaders of tomorrow if our kids cannot afford a basic education? What happens to our youth, to our society, to our once prosperous nation? Education is seen as the four walls of the classroom where the basic concepts of math, English, and science are learned, but in truth, it is the totality of life; a tool for personal and national development, a tool for liberation, and a response to our society. Education is the experience of  previous generations passed on to later generations but sadly, Nigeria has the most out of school  children in the world with a total of 10.5 million Children

At the end of 2021, the inflation rate in Nigeria rose to 15.63% and as a result, prices went up and our purchasing power fell. The markets are expensive, the cost of living in Nigeria is ridiculous so the lower class are sinking deeper and deeper into poverty. Families are struggling to eat talk less about affording an education. This gives rise to the question: How can our leaders of tomorrow get a quality education if they can’t afford to be in school?

In 2018, Meadow Hall Foundation created a core center in Ikorodu, Lagos, in partnership with parish church to train out-of-school children for free every day for the entire year, learning math, English & civic studies. This bore fruit as some students improved their literacy skills and others were enrolled in neighboring schools; but unfortunately, the project was not sustainable. In 2021, Meadow Foundation launched the Sponsor A Child project in its adopted school – Ilasan Nursery & Primary School. The  Sponsor A Child project aims to keep in the children in school by paying their tuition and lunch for the academic session, whilst redistributing wealth to the food vendor, who will receive over two million nairas each academic session. Currently, the project is sponsoring 100 children at the school.

To encourage more students to stay in school while supporting families below the poverty line, Meadow  Hall Foundation has partnered with PiggyVest to sponsor more children at the school. This partnership will have PiggyVest match the funds raised between 1st of February, 2022 – 31st of July, 2022, on the  PiggyVest app. The target is N2,500,000 and once it is achieved, the Foundation will have N5,000,000 at its disposal to cater for 166 students in Ilasan Nursery & Primary School for the 2022/2023 Academic session.
