At TechCabal, we believe that the richest conversations about Africa’s technology industry involve the people who shape it. For over a decade, together with industry stakeholders, we’ve reported on the business and human impact of tech and innovation across the continent, providing in-depth analysis and actionable knowledge, and asking important questions about building in Africa. Nevertheless, we recognise that there are perspectives that journalistic reporting alone will not fully provide—and that’s where you come in.

We’re inviting African technology founders, investors, policymakers, operators, or anyone with a unique vantage point into technology development on the continent to contribute to our Opinions section. We are working to offer a platform for robust and meaningful conversations, analysis, and perspectives that will foster a richer understanding of technology’s economic and human impact on communities throughout the continent.

Whether you want to challenge an industry norm, make sense of a major industry shift or news events, or spotlight an underreported trend, this section will offer you a platform to share your expert and unique insights with our pan-African audience.

What are we looking for?

We seek to publish well-informed, fact-based opinion pieces that go beyond surface-level takes. Your piece should:

• Make a strong and clear argument—don’t sit on the fence.
• Offer a fresh perspective on a news event, trend, or policy.
• Contribute new knowledge about a sector, innovation, or issue.
• Push the conversation forward with original insights.
• Be 750-800 words long and must not have been published elsewhere, including your social media channels.

Here are a few examples of really strong op-eds we’ve so far published to give you an idea about what we’re looking for:

• GTBank downtime: Incompetence or something more sinister?
• Inconsistent policies are killing African startups
• ‘Wealthy Nigerians trade foreign securities. Low-income earners should be allowed too’
• How African tech companies can transform their communication in 2025

What are we NOT looking for?

We’re not the place for self-promotion, rants, or baseless claims. We won’t publish:

• Articles that advertise a person, company, or product.
• Arguments that lack detail, clarity or evidence.
• Disrespectful or uncivil discourse.
• Bold claims without credible sources.

Who can write?

If you’ve spent time in Africa’s technology industry, your voice matters. Whether you’re a tech founder, policymaker, investor, operator or media professional, you have insights worth sharing.

Our readers are looking for sharp, thoughtful opinions that inform.
