Star Music is an entertainment app developed by the Nigerian Breweries PLC. The company produces the Star lager beer, hence, Star Music.

The entertainment app allows users stream and download songs by Nigerian artists on its network at no cost. That’s not all the apps does. It curates news on the Nigerian music scene, lyrics, pre release tracks, videos and the likes. There is also a playlist section where users get a curated party mix.

Once you download the app, the registration requirement is that the user be 18 years or older and you can opt to sign in with your facebook ID or email address.

The music app is quite intuitive. It has well defined categories such as tracks, videos, news, features, charts e.t.c. Users can also select a bulk of songs and download them simultaneously. Based on the range of content provided by the app, it will primarily rival music blogs but music streaming applications, like Spinlet which has a predominantly Nigerian user demography.

This will appeal much to Nigerian users who are primarily freemium oriented. But we are unsure how Star Music helps artists monetize via the app.

Nigerian Breweries PLC has entrenched itself into the Nigerian music industry through its music talent hunt program, Star Quest and the annual musical concert, Star Mega Jam.

The app has been around for a while, since February 2013, and some Nigerian artists have released their songs exclusively on the platform. The app is available on the Play Store.
