GSMarena reports that Facebook is developing its own digital assistant, codenamed MoneyPenny, for its Messenger app.

Yes. Like the Ms. Moneypenny from the James Bond franchise.  Moneypenny will enable users connect with other users who can help them research local services and order products and services. The human layer to the product is unlike what existing virtual assistants like Siri or Cortana do.

Details are still scant on how and when the product will deploy, but Engadget quoting sources familiar with the functionality says it will be deployed especially to help with shopping and research.

The company also recently rolled out peer-to-peer payment functionality that resides in the Messenger app.
