Starta is pitting 32 Nigerian startups against each other in a game they are calling Startup Matchup. If you’re wondering about Starta, it’s a business support platform for startups and entrepreneurs, and this Matchup is a tribute to boxing legend, Muhammad Ali. To play, all you have to do is pretend you’re a VC or angel investor and pick what startup you’d rather invest in. Simple enough, yes?
“Courageous people defy all odds and fight to secure a place beyond their station in life”, they said in their newsletter from yesterday. “That was the narrative of Muhammad Ali, the legend who died last week. He told us he is the greatest. He believed it. He backed it up. And we believed him. As a tribute to the champ, we are staging a fight…..between 32 of institutionally funded startups in Nigeria.”
Of course, there’s no actual money involved though. The Startup Matchup will have 5 rounds and winners are going to be announced weekly. The first round will close on June 19, 2016. Odun Eweniyi from PushCV has already started playing.

Starta might be extending this game to Ghana, South Africa and Kenya, and they are looking for contributors that’ll help curate VC funded startups from those countries. If you think you’re up to it, email their founder, Dotun Olowoporoku here.
