Adugbo is a digital platform that enables the contextually relevant discovery and promotion of products/services offered by local merchants/small businesses. Via a suite of web/mobile apps offering specific location-based services, Adugbo aims to collectively serve as the “digital interface to your city”. An estimated 25% (of the 105 million Nigerian mobile users) own a smartphone and the rapid drop in smartphone costs portends an impending growth of adoption in 2014.
This trend presents an opportunity for mobile-centric (and in some cases mobile-only) content consumption and e-commerce. Users’ smartphone capabilities can also be leveraged to enable the contextually relevant discovery of local services, and the targeted promotion of digital products/services to mobile audiences.
These observations, coupled with the projected improvements in broadband connectivity inspired the creation of Adugbo. Adugbo enables locals/tourists discover local information – events nearby, local movie showtimes, offers, nearby service providers, and recommends items of interest based on a user’s context — location, current time and preferences. Adugbo will also enable businesses showcase their offerings to nearby audiences by: creating a local profile describing their products/services and the geographical areas they serve; directly promoting their offerings within a specified geographical area at a desired time of the day, and day of the week.
Adubgo is personally bootstrapped by Ayodele Marcus. It is available as an app download.
Adugbo is a finalist in the TechCabal Battlefield, holding on Friday the 21st of February, at Four Points, Lekki. Register now to attend.
