Eight new smartphones were launched yesterday by Obi Mobiles into the Kenyan market.

The range of phones are: the Leopard S502, Crane S550, Fox S453, Racoon S401, the Power GO F240 (equipped with a 3000mAH battery and power bank option), Wolverine S501, Hornbill S551 and their flagship the Octopus S520 (a 5” octa-core powered by a 1.7 GHz Octa Core processor).

All the phones run on an android platform and have several other perks attached to them. This will probably help them compete with other phones with similar features in the market.

“Consumers are increasingly looking to upgrade from feature rich phones to smartphones. However, the high cost of investment on new-age devices is a huge deterrent for a large number of aspirational buyers. At Obi Mobiles, we believe by ticking off the right boxes, in terms of superior design and quality, desirable price points, and the support of strong channels that reach every segment of the market will help us succeed across Africa”, Amit Rupchandani, Managing Director at Obi Mobiles MENA,  said about the firm’s strategy for Africa.

John Sculley, the co-founder of Obi Mobiles, recently launched Obi Ventures to help early-stage African startups.
