The South African Reserve Bank (SARB) has cleared Econet Wireless to begin its cross-border mobile money remittance services, EcoCash, to Zimbabwe.

IT News Africa reports that the EcoCash platform aims to allow Zimbabwean citizens living abroad to send money back to their loved ones back home.

The company says it would take several weeks for the service to be fully established, adding that it would be up and running by the end of July 2015.

African News Agency reports that the approval took over 18 months to secure and will come as a major relief for Zimbabweans working in South Africa.

EcoCash will reportedly be as accessible, quick and convenient as making a ‘cash-in’ to EcoCash in Zimbabwe.
