Safaricom has revealed that is collaborating with real estate developers to build smart buildings in Kenya under an initiative called Jiji Smart.

CIO reports that the project will see Safaricom integrate fibre cabling smart buildings, providing internet connection and other communications solutions. The integration will however require owners of these structures to pay for internet bandwidth.

“Jiji Smart is a proposition that has been informed by the fact that the internet has revolutionized how we communicate, both in business and in social circles,” said Rita Okuthe, General Manager, Safaricom Business. “With technological advancements, tenants in malls or offices no longer need to invest in their own cabling and other requisite ICT infrastructure.”

Embarked on by the Business enterprise arm of Safaricom, Jiji smart will be available, for the first time, with the launch of The Hub Karen, a 20-acre infrastructure that features a shopping malls and offices spaces.

The Hub Karen is currently under construction and will open in November, 2015.
