The windows 10 is here. Yay. Microsoft rolled out the free update across 190 countries today.
Since Microsoft announced its latest OS would roll out today, we’ve been beside ourselves with excitement. And Microsoft has played the media card well. It has been all the tech press talked about these past few months.
For anyone who cared, all the details there is about the OS is already out there. But, a couple things to be reminded of:
1. It is free
For the next one year, that is. This doesn’t mean a one year trial though, it means if you do not cop the update before July 29, 2016, you have to fork out between $119 and $199 to get the OS.
2. It is the last windows OS
The company said it will subsequently only roll out updates. Much in the same manner that Apple currently does.
3. It’s not windows 9
Yes, you are not a crazy person, it’s actually windows 10. The tech press has reported widely that this is Microsoft’s not-at-all subtle way of saying it is done with its old ways of anticlimactic and unwieldy operating systems.
So who do you have to kill to get the new OS? No one, thank Zeus. But there is one thing to be done. Only one.
RESERVE!
Provided your device currently runs a genuine Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1, all you have to do, is look out for the Get Windows 10 App icon on the taskbar, click on it when it shows up and follow the prompts.
If you don’t see the icon, it might be your version of the OS is not genuine or any of the other reasons listed here.
Despite having launched today, users are required to reserve an upgrade, because Microsoft is rolling out the OS in phases so as to zap bugs as it goes and of course, bear the server munch from 1.5 billion computers accessing its servers at the same time.
You will be notified when an upgrade is ready and prompted to install after. No discs, no USB and incomprehensible installation files.
It’s exciting, the new shiny OS with Cortana and sublime graphics, but here is a caveat. Between me and you, I’ll wait a few days, weeks maybe (certainly not year) before installing Windows 10, because bugs and glitches like these ones.
