Jottr, the South Africa-based content discovery platform, has raised a million dollars in funding along with $100 000 credit from Amazon Web Services.

Ventureburn reports that the funding was secured in June through various family funds

based in Malta, the UK , the Netherlands and also from others angels.

The company revealed that the funds raised will be spent in further developing the app, and increasing traction across its markets.

The Jottr app is designed to help users pick out the most relevant information to them, in a maelstrom of online signals. The company co-founder, Michael Haupt, stated that “ [with Jottr, users] won’t be assaulted by irrelevant news, [users] won’t be sent off on a tangent”. He also indicated the startup is in talks with content publishers and app developers.

The app has so far been well received in the UK, US and South Africa and has just been released on the iOS platform.
