Maiaddy, a location intelligence start-up launched the loccode system on Monday 4th of November. This launch event on X Spaces (Formerly Twitter) was an opportunity for the company to present its solution to the world and demonstrate its use in various industries. The launch moderated by Ada Nsitem witnessed the presence of Chidi Anyaegbu, director at Chisco Group, Irene Nwaukwa, founder/CEO at Infinity Health Africa, Gbenga Adigun, founder and CEO of Scrella, Chibueze Ekeh, CEO at CEESOLAR, Adewale Adesina, COO at Invent Media, Adebola Odunsi, CEO at INTEGRITAS Limited, Ayọ̀wándé Adálèmo, founder/CEO at wave5wireless, and Osas Faluyi, CEO at Shepherd Trust MFB.
Founded by Obinna Onyejeli, Maiaddy was launched in September 2024 to solve the address system problems in Nigeria. Despite a growing e-commerce market driven by a growing logistics and e-payment industries, Nigeria has an address problem. After experiencing how zip codes and postcodes have spurred development in other countries, Obinna wanted to prompt the same growth in Nigeria. With a small team of three, he set out to create address codes for areas in Nigeria. Working with the state and local administrative systems, Obinna and the team at Maiaddy mapped out the entire country in two months and assigned location codes (loccodes) to every area. With these loccodes anyone anywhere in Nigeria, can be addressed. Anyone can know their loccode using the maiaddy app on the AppStore and PlayStore.
Maiaddy’s alphanumeric loccodes make the long address systems which are common in Nigeria obsolete. Deliveries and other logistic coordination will become efficient and faster by using the Loccodes in the postal address. These locodes will also make it possible for government services to be more seamless and efficient as it will cut down in-person office visits for certain documentation. With the launch of the Maiaddy platform, its use cases and potential to drive development are endless.
Use cases for the loccodes
Industry experts have reacted positively to the launch of Maiaddy’s loccodes. Speaking at the launch event, various stakeholders disclosed how they believe loccodes can benefit their industry.
Speaker | Industry | Use case |
Dr Adebola Odunsi, CEO, INTEGRITAS Limited, | Healthcare | “The launch of loccodes opens a portal of infinite possibilities. Location data opens up the realm of medical intelligence and helps us understand what health in your community looks like. With this data, we can track medical information like disease spread, vaccination dissemination and coordination, and incidence reports. With the data from loccodes we can make physical and economic plans to tackle various medical needs. We also have dumb data (data not currently in use) currently sitting that if we apply loccodes to will open up new insights” |
Osas Faluyi, CEO Shepherd Trust MFB, (NeoCash) | Fintech | “Indexing addresses is very useful in fintech. With the regulatory requirements we have to deal with in fintech, loccodes will help us scale more efficiently, plot better routes, and plan which financial services to deploy in a certain area” “With loccodes we can also make granular location-driven decisions, like credit-worthiness, deployment of POS machines and debit cards, and more.” |
Irene Nwaukwa, Founder/CEO Infinity Health Africa | Healthcare | “I am very excited for loccodes as it is a solution on which we can build and scale other lifesaving healthcare solutions. The Nigerian healthcare market is greatly fragmented because we cannot map the healthcare services and facilities available. Loccodes can help significantly in the distribution of healthcare resources as they can help us determine underserved areas. Solutions like loccode are important to save lives and also provide ease to patients/customers” “Loccodes will make regulatory compliance easier for us in the healthcare industry. We have certain location requirements for setting up pharmacies and other healthcare facilities and this service cuts down the cost significantly for such logistics concerns.” |
Chibueze Ekeh CEO, CEESOLAR | Renewable energy | “For us in the energy space, location runs everything. Location intelligence supports us to assess business risk. With this loccodes technology we can map energy demands in areas, get intelligence on the number of houses and population in an area to make informed business decisions, and also access information on the proximity of energy facilities from one another (like the distance of a transformer to the national grid). This is intelligence that will help us save on time and resources.” |
Chidi Anyaegbu, Director, Chisco Group | Logistics | “Loccodes give very good insights for route optimization and business decisions. This saves us time and resources. Logistics cuts across every other industry and these loccodes will simplify delivery of services to customers” |
Ayowándé Adálemo Founder/CEO @wave5wireless | Information technology | “Solutions like loocodes will solve the problems of internet access and distribution. We (@wave5wireless) have built a WIFI solution that is location-specific and with loccodes we can get exact customer locations in relation to the closest bay station. This completely changes the game for us when reaching and serving our customers” |
Adewale Adesina, COO Invent Media | Marketing | “This is something long overdue for the Nigerian market. In advertising there are certain parameters you need to know; who are you advertising to, why are you advertising to that person, when you are advertising to them, and where are you advertising to them. In the past, we have been unable to identify the ‘where’. Now with something like loccodes, we can target our advertising appropriately” |
Gbenga Adigun, founder and CEO of Scrella and Rebar Perfecta | InsuranceConstruction | “What Maiaddy has done is not just a product but an infrastructure. Location intelligence is more than just tracking and it can improve and maximise operational efficiency. Part of the success we have experienced so far at Rebar is based on location intelligence. We are happy to integrate Maiaddy into our existing systems to optimise our route planning, lower costs, and serve our customers better” “Everything about insurance is risk assessment. What location intelligence helps this industry do is access risk information like crime rates, disaster rates, etc. based on location” |

In addition to the state and local government collaborations, Maiaddy is establishing a relationship with the Nigerian Postal Service (Nipost) to create a mutually beneficial partnership. They are also in conversations with members of the private sector and are open to partnerships.
The company’s goal is to unlock the possibilities in location intelligence and be the catalyst for positive growth across multiple industries in Nigeria. According to Obinna, “There are a lot of sectors where location intelligence comes in handy and has the potential to revolutionise the industry. I’m happy to announce that the loccode system is now live and positioned to serve Nigeria for good”.
