The healthcare sector in Nigeria and West Africa has long grappled with inefficiencies in financial management, revenue leakages, and limited access to quality care. Digital innovation plays a crucial role in addressing these challenges, with healthcare technology platforms driving financial transparency and improving service delivery. As the region embraces digital transformation, innovative solutions are emerging to optimize healthcare financing, enhance patient access, and reduce the administrative burden on medical facilities.
One such innovation leading the charge is Pay1One, a pioneering digital platform co-founded by Adedamola Bowale, which is transforming financial operations in public healthcare institutions across Nigeria. Since its inception in 2019, Pay1One has been addressing long-standing inefficiencies and revenue leakages within Nigeria’s public healthcare system, driving a paradigm shift in how financial processes are managed in hospitals across the nation.
Recognizing the pressing challenges in the healthcare sector, Adedamola partnered with Tolu Oluyemi to create Pay1One, a bootstrapped initiative aimed at bridging the technological gap in the public health system. Combining their expertise as a data professional and a Product Manager, they designed a platform that optimizes revenue collection and enhances overall financial transparency and accountability.
At its core, Pay1One automates the revenue collection process in public health facilities, ensuring that funds are efficiently tracked and financial leakages minimized. By digitizing these processes, the platform has significantly improved the financial management of hospitals and increased the revenue flow of these institutions. However, Pay1One goes beyond revenue assurance. It integrates innovative services such as remote medical consultations, medication delivery, and home-based lab services—critical components in improving patient access to healthcare and reducing the burden on physical healthcare facilities.
Since its launch, Pay1One has achieved remarkable milestones, being deployed across 178 public healthcare institutions in Nigeria, including Federal Medical Centers, General Hospitals, Primary Health Centers, and several Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). This widespread adoption underscores its effectiveness and the trust it has earned within the healthcare community. To date, Pay1One has processed over $25 million in transactions, reinforcing its crucial role in enhancing revenue assurance and strengthening the financial health of Nigeria’s public healthcare system.
The success of Pay1One in Nigeria has set the stage for international expansion. The platform is now making inroads into the United Kingdom, where it seeks to further enhance healthcare experiences through data-driven insights and advanced technology. As part of its UK expansion, Pay1One will introduce services such as remote consultations and medication delivery, extending its innovative solutions beyond the Nigerian healthcare landscape.
One of Adedamola’s key contributions to the platform, beyond his role as a co-founder, is in data analytics. As the Technical Lead, he played an instrumental role in developing Pay1One’s high-level, real-time dashboard and reporting system. This system equips healthcare administrators with valuable insights into revenue streams, patient payment trends, and financial performance across multiple healthcare facilities. This data-driven approach has improved daily financial operations and influenced policy formulation, strategic decision-making, and budget allocation for public healthcare investments.
Adedamola’s work at Pay1One has earned significant recognition. He was honored with the Business Intelligence Mastery Award at the Africa Tech Alliance Forum in recognition of his entrepreneurial spirit, innovation in launching tech startups, and contribution to job creation in the tech sector. This award highlights his ability to leverage business intelligence and technology to drive efficiency and transformation, particularly in critical sectors like healthcare. The Africa Tech Alliance Forum, a leading platform for technological innovation in Africa, provided the perfect stage to celebrate Adedamola’s impact, reinforcing his role as a key player in the continent’s tech ecosystem.
Through its groundbreaking solutions, Pay1One continues to demonstrate the transformative power of technology in addressing some of healthcare’s most pressing challenges. By integrating data analytics with healthcare management practices, the platform is reshaping the landscape of public healthcare in Nigeria and beyond. As it expands into international markets, Pay1One is proving that innovation, coupled with the right technology, can have a profound impact on global healthcare systems. This journey serves as a compelling reminder of the critical role business intelligence plays in driving growth, efficiency, and accessibility within key sectors, cementing its status as a key player in the global tech ecosystem.
