SoftOrbits is an image editing software development company founded by Eugene Ustinenkov in 2006. Initially a small startup that delivered single-feature utilities, nowadays SoftOrbits occupies a unique niche in the industry, boasting over 300,000 users, a million yearly downloads, and is also recognized by industry giants like Softonic, OISV, and CNET.
Recently, SoftOrbits has changed its usual strategy and released 10 web versions of its utilities, including its highly demanded object removal tool. This resulted in significant growth in both the active user base and downloads for the desktop version of the tool. The team behind the company is convinced that this success signifies a new era for SoftOrbits and speaks volumes about the shift in customer preferences.

“This success wasn’t unexpected, but it still shows just how important convenience and accessibility are for modern audiences — they overshadow lots of other features companies focus on today. We were always one of the teams that made creating highly intuitive and overall accessible products our priority, and we are glad that we could increase convenience even further by delivering web versions of our products,” says Eugene Ustinenkov, CEO of SoftOrbits and AlarmFront.
As Ustinenkov explains, SoftOrbits’ object removal tool was always in high demand among marketing teams and influencers — the utility was mostly used to quickly and reliably create product pages and thumbnails. While both audiences were generally comfortable with downloading a tool they were planning to use frequently, the new version has enabled them to achieve results anywhere and at any time, increasing productivity and enabling them to iterate on their designs much more easily.
“This is a massive improvement, and the numbers support it. We are happy that we can find new ways to address the needs and requirements of our business customers, which constitutes a solid percentage of our overall audience nowadays, and that wasn’t the case when we started. SoftOrbits has become much more diverse in that regard and we are glad that online availability has this effect on what we represent as a company,” says Eugene Ustinenkov, CEO of SoftOrbits, Candidate of Technical Sciences.
Right now the team behind SoftOrbits plans not just to increase the number of its tools available online, but also to focus on implementing new AI-powered features to increase the tools’ accessibility and convenience even further.
“We have to say that prompt-based editing is unparalleled, and natural language recognition is going to rule editing software in the future, so we aim to stay up-to-date with it at all times. There is simply nothing quite as simple and efficient as AI when it comes to dealing with virtually any routine task, and it is doubly true for our corporate clients, so AI is obviously going to be our priority from now on,” says Eugene Ustinenkov, CEO of SoftOrbits with over 10 years of software development expertise.
However, outside of AI, SoftOrbits also aims to change its whole distribution model to address other important trends in the industry. Right now, the company is in the process of transitioning to a SaaS style of distribution, intending to increase the availability of its products and remove hardware limitations associated with downloadable software.

“We have to say that the process is obviously going to take some time, but we are fully committed to it — it is something we have planned and considered for a very long time, so we have a clear roadmap, and eventually, you will get to experience what the renewed SoftOrbits has to offer. As for the moment, we will continue servicing our users as expected and provide high-quality products as we always have,” says Hannes Jansen, writer and editor at SoftOrbits.
