Korrency, a modern cross-border payments platform serving people whose lives and finances stretch across Africa, the UK, Canada, and Europe, has officially launched in the United Kingdom. The expansion extends the company’s operations beyond Canada and introduces a digital-first alternative to the costly, slow, and opaque remittance channels many Africans still rely on.

More than 1.5 million Africans live in the UK, forming one of the world’s most active financial corridors. Yet international transfers remain expensive and unpredictable for many users. With this launch, Korrency aims to offer a cleaner, clearer, and faster way to move money across borders.

    A digital-first solution for a persistent problem

Through the Korrency app, UK users can send money to several African markets, including Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Senegal, Cameroon, and Côte d’Ivoire. Transfers are designed to be fast, with many corridors settling within minutes. Actual delivery times may vary based on the receiving institution, partner availability, and required compliance checks.

The platform also supports money transfers to Canada and selected European destinations, giving users greater financial flexibility across regions where Africans commonly live, work, and do business.

For freelancers, gig workers, and professionals, Korrency provides dedicated GBP and EUR account details (virtual IBANs) for eligible users. These account details—issued by Korrency’s licensed Electronic Money Institution (EMI) partner—allow users to receive international payments directly into their Korrency wallet without the complexity or delays of traditional channels.

“Sending money shouldn’t feel stressful or complicated,” said Sam Egbeocha, CEO of Korrency. “We focus on transparency and accessibility—clear pricing, upfront exchange rates, and a modern experience that puts users in control.”

    How Korrency works

Users can get started by downloading the Korrency app, creating an account, and completing identity verification. UK users can fund their wallets using bank transfers or supported debit cards, while Canadian users continue to fund through Interac.

The app displays exchange rates upfront and offers full price transparency, with no Korrency transfer fees on eligible corridors. Real-time status updates give users visibility into when a payment has been initiated, processed, and completed—an upgrade from legacy systems that often leave senders waiting days with limited insight.

    Why the UK market matters

The UK is one of the largest remittance hubs globally. According to the World Bank, UK residents sent over $10.8 billion abroad in 2022, with African countries receiving a significant share.

These payments support essential needs—school fees, healthcare, family expenses, business operations—and the market continues to grow as digital channels replace traditional methods. Korrency aims to meet this demand with a platform built for the speed and transparency today’s users expect.

Security, compliance, and trust at the foundation

Korrency is registered with FINTRAC as a Money Services Business (MSB) in Canada and operates a robust AML, CTF, and sanctions-screening framework.

In the UK and Europe, all regulated payment and account services—including GBP and EUR account details—are provided through Korrency’s licensed EMI partner, authorised and supervised by the relevant financial authorities. The platform uses enterprise-grade encryption, secure infrastructure, and ongoing security monitoring to protect customer data and transactions.

“Trust is everything in cross-border payments,” Egbeocha added. “People need a platform they can depend on—whether they’re supporting family or receiving payments from overseas.”

Driving inclusion in a connected global economy

With multicurrency wallets, transparent pricing, and fast processing times, Korrency aims to make international finance simpler and more accessible for students, gig workers, immigrants, and professionals whose lives span multiple countries.

The Korrency app is available on the App Store and Google Play. Corridor and feature availability may vary by country and user eligibility.
