I used the TECNO CAMON 50 device, marketed as “TECNO’s most advanced AI smartphone ever”, for two days.

The CAMON 50 feels like a glimpse into a new standard for mobile intelligence. In this article, I write about what it was like to live with the latest CAMON series for 48 hours.

    Camera features and FlashSnap

The primary camera uses the 50MP Sony LYT-700C sensor, engineered for superior light capture even in challenging nighttime conditions. The 50MP Sony LYT-700C main sensor features a wide f/1.8 aperture and Optical Image Stabilisation, enabling sharp captures even in low-light conditions. This is supported by an 8MP ultra-wide lens with a 112-degree field of view, providing ample versatility for landscape and architectural photography.

A standout feature of this generation is FlashSnap 2.0, a high-speed shooting system that captures action in an instant, with up to 5x Super Zoom.

The phone can intelligently recognise scenes with its high-speed shutter and the BestMoment 2.0 algorithm. This helps in selecting the sharpest frame from a buffer of multiple images to ensure high-speed motion remains crisp.

The camera experience is also enhanced by AI Auto Zoom, which automatically crops the frame for optimal composition. The user can achieve professional-looking results.

Additionally, the introduction of Live Photo allows for capturing motion shortly before and after the shutter is pressed. These memories can be easily exported as videos or GIFs, making them ready for immediate sharing on social platforms.

On the software side, the inclusion of HiOS 16 introduces an aesthetic and functional overhaul through Glow Space. This interface features 3D Live Wallpapers and a Depth of Field Home Screen that gives the UI a premium layered feel.

    TECNO AI

Beyond photography, the CAMON 50 has an AI stack designed to assist with daily tasks and creative endeavours. The dedicated AI Key makes this possible because it is positioned ergonomically for easy access.

With a single tap, I was able to engage FlashMemo, which summarises screen content or extracts essential information, such as addresses and schedules, from screenshots. This makes the smartphone serve as a personal productivity assistant.

Another interesting feature is the AI Health Assistant. It utilises the camera and various sensors to measure vital signs such as heart rate and blood oxygen saturation levels.

    Battery life and screen

The 6150mAh battery reserve is paired with 45W Super Charge technology. This combination ensures the single-cell battery remains healthy even under the thermal stress of rapid charging.

The display technology incorporates 2160Hz high-frequency PWM dimming to reduce screen flicker, which, alongside TÜV Rheinland Low Blue Light certification, provides a significantly more comfortable viewing experience during extended periods of use.

    Flagship design and connectivity

Despite its slim 7.38mm profile, the CAMON 50 is dust and water-resistant with IP69 and IP69K certifications.

Performance is powered by the MediaTek Helio G200 Ultimate chipset, which drives a vibrant 1.5K AMOLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate. This combination ensures that a user’s gaming or streaming remains fluid and responsive on the device.

In terms of communication, the device uses FreeLink, a technology that allows for calls and messages even in the absence of a cellular network by utilising Bluetooth Long Range. This is complemented by an offline search function that enables owners locate or lock their phone even when it is disconnected or powered off.

OneLeap, a software solution in the device, enables seamless cross-device collaboration, allowing users to share clipboards and files between their phone and other devices with a simple tap.

Together with the security of an in-display fingerprint sensor and the immersive audio provided by Dolby Atmos-tuned dual stereo speakers, these technical details complete the picture of a refined device.

    Final thoughts

If you are looking for a device that prioritises photography and seamless AI assistance, the CAMON 50 is a formidable contender.
