Evernote is ending support for BlackBerry 7 and Playbook devices. This was revealed in a blog post by the company, in which it said that the Evernote app will be removed from the Blackberry 7 and Playbook device stores by the 7th of February, 2015.
According to the post:
“As of February 7th, we’ll be retiring Evernote Hello, Evernote Peek, Evernote for BlackBerry 7, and Evernote for BlackBerry PlayBook. This means they’ll no longer be available for download and we won’t be making any further updates to them. It also means that the apps or features within the apps, including sync with Evernote, will no longer work.”
Evernote is a suite of software and services, designed for note-taking and archiving, and is available across most mobile and desktop operating systems. The company is however cutting support for BlackBerry 7 and Playbooks, because it is more focused on modern operating systems. The statement takes care to point out that the app is still available on the more recent BlackBerry 10 OS.
Overall the BlackBerry operating system has experienced an exodus of consumers over the last few years, which has resulted in lost marketshare and a struggle to remain relevant to developers. In 2014, the Canadian company said it would renew its focus on the enterprise market segment.
